The weekend after the 4th of July we went rafting and invited Travis' parents and brother and family.
Travis took his kayak, Kevin and Avery hopped in the little raft and the rest of us were in the big raft.
Launch!
Travis is way too big for this little kayak, but he found it cheap at a garage sale and it's a fun, squirrely thing.
Hey handsome boys!
Through a portion of rapids
Yup, still handsome
Avery loved working that little raft
More rapids coming
Feeling awesome
Wahoo!
ROCK!
Rapids are AWESOME!
So how was the first leg of the journey, Avery?
Travis tied a rope to the front of the kayak to keep hold of and then let Avery give it a try. He had great motion and looked really natural! He was great!
It was a little more awkward for Carson.
Emmett's turn!
Whoa, what's that!
A little cave that apparently has had some human visitors...
Now to try out the snorkel and kid sized flippers.
Carson trying them on
Carson didn't really try the snorkel
Emmett didn't really try out the snorkel either
Time to head back out!
There are rapids right at the little alcove we stop at which means you have to know where it is and prep ahead to be able to get in. When coming out you hit the rapids sideways... which means in a round bottom little kayak you're likely to topple!
Good thing it's a warm day!
When we got to a slow stretch, Travis hopped in just to float in the cool water.
And another flip for Travis from the rapids!
Here's 3 minutes of video clips from our fun day. It's not easy taking video on a bouncing raft!
When we made it to the take-out spot, Avery found a little shell.
The kids enjoyed a snack from half the lunch we had available to us. The other half was locked up. Because Travis left his keys for safe keeping in his Dad's glove box back at the launch! Travis had to go for an unscheduled run... 1 mile uphill out of the park to the highway, 3 miles along the highway to the launch park, and a half mile in from the highway. All in sandals. Ouch. Despite that, we had a great day and vowed to take the boys out again before the summer was over.
