BBP Part 2 Straightening The Wall

Thursday July 22nd Travis started in for real on the BBP. First to tackle: the east corner of our retaining wall. He finished most of it on Saturday July 24th. The retaining wall ends curved in a lot which made putting up a fence difficult plus the yard could use as much additional space as we could give it.

Prying up the first pieces

Getting closer, just a few left to remove.


Using the straight line as a guide, eyeball it to adjust the grade where the bricks need to be laid.


Send Avery to get the pea gravel. Like his little ramp? Daddy was not a fan.

But I think he particularly like throwing the gravel


Shovel out all the extra dirt


Shovel in the gravel


Carefully lower the uber-heavy compactor

Check for level


Lay the first brick and check for level again


Pound that sucker in where it needs it.


Moving right along!


And that's enough for the day. It's nice and straight on this end now.


The following weekend on Friday July 30th Travis did the west corner. Here he's getting his line straight after removing all the bricks.


Checking the other end of the line. That stupid little tree was in the way. On our property, but planted by the neighbor. Oh well, we had to cut a little of the corner on that side if we were going to tie our fence in to his fence post anyway and we decided re-planting was unnecessary extra hassle.

A week and a half later, on Tuesday evening Aug 10th, he got back to the project with cutting the stones that needed to be fit in to complete the west corner.


Make a cut and rotate


Chisel an unneeded lip off


Pound it in


And thus ends Part Two of the BBP.
