Carson Loves Emmett!

For all Carson's indifference to Emmett when he visited us in the hospital, our very first evening home he finally took note of his new baby brother. He was full of kisses for him!
Here, Carson heard Emmett crying and he came running to give him a kiss!
And today, 2 days since coming home, Carson wanted to hold Emmett. I was surprised how long he sat there. I guess he was studying the new little addition...
Carson has been so sweet about and with Emmett, I hope he keeps it up!

One other note - we're always working on Carson's vocabulary, but he already calls Emmett "baby" which makes that the fastest learned word to date by far!

That's Enough, Mom

Today was our first full day home from the hospital. My Mom arrived last night to help and this afternoon Avery was holding Emmett with Grandma Benjamin so I had to take some pictures...

I love this look, "what is this thing?"
"Hmm, what's in there?"
After just so much, Avery says to me, "That's enough Mom, it's too bright for Emmett!" emphasizing his point with his hand. Too cute.
But I told him I would stop only if he gave me a nice smile and look, that actually produced a great result with only one shot! If only he'd always cooperate like that...
I really love that shot, Avery can be such a sweet boy and I think this captures that.

Of course, I had to take another picture a few moments later when Avery decided Emmett needed a toy to play with! Sweet boy.

Twins?

I said Emmett looks like Carson and these pictures are a good example. When I showed them to Travis it took him a minute to figure them out, and he only did because he eventually recognized having seen Carson's picture before!

Answer: Carson is on top, Emmett on the bottom.

I'm amazed every time I look at Emmett, how like Carson he is. We thought Avery and Carson started out a lot alike, but they definitely had more differences that Carson and Emmett do! The similarity is truly uncanny!

Emmett comes home!

Time to come home!
When we got home, look at the banner waiting to greet Emmett and me!
Of course, posing for pictures didn't last long before it was back to being brothers as usual - Carson thought kicking Avery off his chair was a hilarious idea:

We've had some amazing help from so many amazing people during this time. Honestly, who wants that first morning shift that gets them up at 4:30am to come stay with our kids so we can get to the hospital so early?
The first day the boys were out of the house all day to play with Sienna and Dawson. Our fabulous homecoming banner was a product of the boys' day there and RaQuelle took some fun pictures of them:
For more cute pictures of their time there go HERE. I was pretty worried about how Carson would handle so many sitters, but apparently he held up really well! Yea!

Last night I had a fun visit from Kristel and RaQuelle. They even entertained me with changing Emmett's diaper for me! I love the look on Emmett's face here as Kristel holds his legs up and RaQuelle does the dirty business...
Apparently hungry babies who've just endured a diaper change don't smile for the camera...

I'm so grateful for all the help we've received during this process - it's amazing how much more has to be handled when you have kids waiting at home. We had 6 different sets of sitters, some with not so great time slots, some with long time slots, and most were last minute arrangements. All of that equals AMAZING people. Thank you so much!

Avery and Carson meet Emmett

The boys came to meet their new baby brother this morning! Avery was SOOO excited. He came right over and wanted to sit with me and hold Emmett and he was just so darn cute!

Brother's love at first sight:
A second after that shot Avery leaned in to give him Eskimo kisses! When he sat with me he was full of kisses and would stretch when Emmett did and pretend to yawn when Emmett did and and so forth. He was just so fascinated!

This, however, is as interested as Carson got...
Carson did want to sit with me for a few minutes and he gave Emmett a few disinterested peeks, but he was quickly bored.

Here's a video of Avery with me and the baby. Sometimes you can hear Carson busy driving his trucks in the background...

Avery couldn't get enough of holding Emmett:
I don't think he particularly wanted to share him with Daddy, although he thought that was very nice of Daddy to give Emmett a kiss...
Avery's already a great big brother, and I know Carson will be too, he just doesn't know it yet!

And his name is...

Emmett J Hunsaker

Just the letter J, just like his Daddy, Travis J Hunsaker

Here I am, just the day before this beautiful little man was born. What an incredible miracle birth is.

Introducing...

...we'll let you know when we're sure. :) We have two names and we just want to make sure we've given him the right one, so we'll let everyone know when it's official.

Hunsaker boy #3
born 9:18am on 9-9-08 (8 days overdue)
8 pounds 6 ounces
20 inches

Avery has always been a mini-me of Travis and when Carson was born we thought he was nearly Avery's twin but not so much Travis. While he does have his own look, this baby is nearly Carson's twin and not very Avery at all. Funny how that works out.

Here's some pictures, and after that a bit more info on what happened.

Bath time!

Okay, so this is definitely more than a "bit" more info...

As is probably fairly well known, I just like to wait and let things happen according to baby and my body's preference. I had delivered naturally twice before and planned to do the same with this baby. Getting far enough past due and stressing my Dr. out, last Friday I agreed we could break my water on Tuesday (today) since I had progressed to 3cm etc. etc. I was still very nervous about that decision and hoped Monday's check would show I had moved along. Sure enough I was 5cm and 80% thinned out, so I felt much better about coming in on Tuesday.

While it probably wasn't the wisest choice considering how far along I was, we went grocery shopping last night and I think it very nearly put me into labor. Travis said I certainly looked like it with the way I was inching along, apparently with my knees together like I was trying to hold the baby in, and he can't describe to me the look on my face. (I do NOT recall that I was doing any more than stepping gingerly). However, after getting home things calmed down and we could keep to the plan (which was by far the most convienent what with sitter's all set for the kids).

We arrived at the hospital at 5:30 and at 6:12 they did the amniotomy. I was dilated to a 6 then. When my Dr. arrived she had an amusing story for us. Apparently my Dr. had a dream about me last night that I decided I wasn't going to come in and I was just going to wait until I dilated all the way and the baby was coming out. (No thanks, that happened unintentionally with my first!) When she got up this morning she very nearly called in just to make sure I had arrived! What does that say about my need to wait wait wait...

So here's the crazy part to the labor: when she checked me my Dr. was flabbergasted to find that the baby had come down significantly but brought some of my uterus and my cervix with him so much that it was pulled over his head and without the pressure on the cervix it had collapsed back to 3cm! It was easily stretched, so I hadn't regressed or anything, but now the concern was getting it to retract back.

Happily, after some specific positioning as I continued to labor, when she came back it had retracted and I had made it to 9cm. Not many minutes later we had our 3rd baby boy.

I'm sure I'll post some shots comparing each of my boys as newborns later. Must... sleep... now...

4 days over...

Well, we're 4 days past due now. No baby yet, but Carson was 4 over and in the evening, so I guess we still have a little time for this one to be our "earliest"...

And if he does come today he would share his birthday with Travis' sister - Happy Birthday Angela!

Body Work

The Explorer had developed a bad little section of rust that Travis wanted to get fixed before this winter's salt glut on the roads and it got any worse. Apparently the spot is notorious for developing rust on this body of Explorer.
He wanted to keep a good record of his progress on the project, so here are the pictures.

Unfortunately, he didn't get a shot beforehand of the rust, so the first one is of the cut out section to be replaced:
Sheet metal cut to fit:
Ready to weld!
After welding and grinding down the welds:
The pre-formed piece that Travis bought, cut to fit and has mostly welded in place:
Grind, grind, grind:
All the pieces welded in and ground down:
Bondo and lots of sanding:
Primer and more sanding:
Paint and clear coat:
He just needs to drill holes now to refit the running board:
And finally, done and all put back together! Now we just have to give the paint a month before we can take the filthy thing through the car wash...
Great job Travis, it looks flawless! Actually, flawless doesn't really match the rest of it... hehe. Could I be any luckier with such a handy guy around?

Harley's Big Bash

This last weekend was Harley Davidson's 105th anniversary, and what a bash they threw. I can't imagine how many bikes there were in town, but it was definitely on the order of ridiculous. Lucky us, we live only a few blocks from the only Harley store in the Milwaukee city limits and the party there was a 24 hour affair including Kid Rock as the big DJ and Jesse James and plenty of "entertainment" of the adult variety. At night, laying in bed, we could actually hear the party which thoroughly impressed us! At least we don't live on/next to the thoroughfare so we didn't have the constant Harley rumble shaking our house.

On Saturday I was supposed to be walking (you know, induce the baby out) and I wanted a picture of the Harley madness, so we walked over. There's a bridge over train tracks next to all that action providing an overview of a lot of the parked Harleys. Avery always loves looking for trains there as we drive over so he was excited to take a walk to see the tracks up close.

These pictures definitely don't do the scene justice, but it was crazy. In the top pic, the party is just off to the left. There's never anything parked along the sides of this road and it was solid from the main street way in the distance, on back over the overpass. Also, it's hard to see, but in the top pic there's a sea of parked bikes to the left of the road. And all this is just the street next to it, not even on the street of the event!

All those bikes really messed with traffic, but a more serious concern I had about them... they were blocking my direct route to the hospital!!! Granted, that didn't turn out to be a problem, but still! Do I need any more anxiety!?

When it was time to walk home, Avery did NOT want to leave. He would have been happy to watch for a train all day!

Labor Day, without the labor...

It was an eventful day, minus the big event. At this point we're obviously not getting our Labor Day baby, but it was a fun day otherwise.

Travis finished the work on the Explorer, so once he gets the final bits put back together for a final pic he gets a post on his greatness there.

Avery got to learn all about frying ants...

Carson tried out Avery's trike. He has to stand in front of the seat to reach the ground. He pushed himself down the slope of our front walk and turned into the grass, ending with these predictable results:
Carson picked it back up and was ready to try again when Avery decided to hop on too. Next thing we new Avery is taking off peddling with Carson along for the ride. Turns out Carson thought that was pretty cool and wanted to keep going when Avery wanted him off so he could go faster.

And of course we got to have a nice evening with friends for a Labor Day BBQ.
Food highlight of the evening: Mike and Jess brought their Dutch oven and made peach cobbler - SO YUMMY! And what a great idea for a BBQ!

Carson enjoyed playing a little baseball - Carson didn't enjoy Avery stealing the baseball bat from him.
Avery enjoyed a lot of baseball - Carson didn't enjoy a whack straight to the face with the bat.
Avery enjoyed a hot dog - Carson didn't enjoy choking on a pretzel.
Avery enjoyed himself overall, especially playing with Hailey, Sienna and Nora - Carson generally had a rough time.

Here's Carson setting up his baseball, and I love the way he holds the bat to hit it:
Avery winds up as Nora delivers the pitch...
...and Carson receives a face full of bat
Carson taking a much needed break:

Well baby, how overdue are you going to be now?

And now... Overtime

Well, I suppose I still have about 9 hours left of my due date, which is certainly enough time for this baby to show up given my delivery history, but what are the chances?
So, we'll probably have a 3rd past-due date baby (Avery being 13 days over and Carson 4 days over).
Bummer, and I couldn't help but think how funny it would be to have the kid today - Labor Day don't ya know.
